Pros

You get exposure to various projects and clients, often starting in the FEED phase and continuing into detailed design -- may get some exposure to the construction phase depending on where the project is located. Benefits are decent, work-life balance is usually decent

Cons

It may be different in other locations (or even in other disciplines within the Western Operations location), but the process department is run pretty poorly, with quite a bit of favoritism shown. Management will never give a straight answer to anything (if/when new jobs are coming in) -- some good people have been laid off recently, with some poor engineers kept on (either on overhead or transferred to different groups). Some of these cuts have been very confusing, and I suspect it will continue. Some of the better engineers are fed up with the way things are being handled, and there seems to be some sort of mass exodus going on at the moment (at least five people within the process department have left or have already put in notice in the past month, with many others currently looking).

Pros

Great to get more experience in different areas

Cons

Completely project based. They don’t let you change on overhead even for 1 hr. It means if you can’t change on the project, they don’t pay you. So many people are full time but they don’t receive the full salary. No one tells you that when they want to hire you. There is no work/life balance
