Not really a "linguistics" job - Linguistic Tester Welocalize Employee Review

Pros

You get to work on the relevance of client software to users and see what is going on behind the scenes. Sometimes shocking, can be fun or highly interesting. Since the office is always expanding and hiring, they want more hands on deck and once in a while hire assistant managers from among the current testers. Can easily get people you know to apply and be offered a position (since they're always hiring it seems), and you can take your bonus if the person stays for 3+ months. If you're a top performer in your team, you may get upward mobility.

Cons

The job title says "Linguistic Tester", so I thought this job would be directly related to linguistics, but it really isn't and doesn't require linguistics training sadly. Can turn tedious and repetitive, and if the client decides to change guidelines suddenly, you may be thrown off your beaten track and forced into learning your role all over again. No paid holiday + forced 2 week holiday for the end of the year season. Low job security, everyone seems temporarily here.

Pros

When there is work available, especially when this project first launched, you could make decent money. The Quality Improvement Program was once realistic and managers were accessible. They used to give us sick leave and it felt like a real job.

Cons

They took away our sick leave. Barely any work since Christmas, around 5 hours per week if you're lucky. The Quality Improvement Program has gone down the toilet. The quality checks constantly contradict the guidelines and the feedback from management is often contradictory and wildly inconsistent depending on the turnover. Lower level employees are constantly afraid of losing their job because there are random firings every quarter with no explanation.
