Pros
If you are a Store Manager or Co-Manager, the best reason to work for Wal-Mart would be the money. I worked endless hours with little or no acknowledgement giving up my days off 75% of the time because I felt I had to. The regular pay is average as far as all big box retailers are but the bonus was nice, which was why I kept putting up with the long hours. I also really enjoyed the people that worked for Wal-Mart, we had a great time and for the most part pitched in to make the store successful.
Cons
The hours for the management associates were deplorable, you had little or no personal life and no one cared. I came up thru the ranks fairly quickly and was considered to be an excellent manager, most of my staff enjoyed working with me and I believe they would say I was consistently fair. As managers we were constantly being told to treat our associates like they were gold, however senior management did not tgive the store managment the same respect. Several times as an assistant manager I was told to go to another store to assist in some way but could not go home to change or make other arrangements at home. As an Assistant Manager I worked an average of 55 hours per week, as Store Manager, 65.
