Pros

It is very dependent upon where you work within Verizon and the experience that you have. The benefits are generally good. Our area also sponsors and encourages additional training. On the software development side the Agile Mindset is encouraged. My co workers and immediate managers are good and fair I work for and with them.

Cons

EWA- in the event of an associate strike you are expected to perform additional duties to support telephone, FIOS, internet service. Rotating management several layers up. The new Directors always have a new strategy and this last round we have lost too many people because of the lack of communication and poor strategy. Not sure how long it will take to recover from the latest and greatest. RIF - No doubt about it, this will happen. Unfortunately, the spreadsheet makes decisions. Know this going in, do your job, but also work to improve your skills and abilities for yourself. The company is too large to care for a single individual. Unfortunately, the Agile mind set is not pushed enough on the Business Side and there is a lot of miss opportunities.

Pros

Compensation is competitive but you will work very hard for it. Culture is excellent and exhibited and practiced from the top down. Benefits are excellent and cost reasonable. 401k match and profit sharing. Lots of training and professional development opportunities. Can advance if you're willing to relocate.

Cons

Company is trying to transform into what it wants to be beyond a wireless carrier (cloud?, security?, telematics?, wholesaler?, etc) and is struggling with a vision, resources, and org structure to make it a reality. Several re-organizations over last few years so job security has frequently been a question. Often delayed response to competitors caused by management's concern that acting would result in not meeting Wall Street expectations. Not the "happiest" place to work because no result is ever good enough and successes aren't celebrated because the focus is always on the next weekly/monthly/quarterly goal.
