Pros
Good benefits, flexible time off, and remote work
Cons
The tl;dr - - Cultural nosedive - Little-to-no career growth - No trust in senior management --- When I first started at Venmo, it truly felt like the dream job. The work was engaging, the culture was friendly, everyone seemed happy to be there every day. In the two years since then, I have witnessed the most severe cultural decline in my career. Work/life balance has taken an enormous hit. There is a constant feeling of tension between teams. The pay never grows with your career experience, and promotions are nearly impossible to secure. I have witnessed the atmosphere at Venmo grind down my most positive teammates into bitter pessimists. Much of this is due to the PayPal acquisition, and the process of being absorbed into that environment. Early concerns risen around this were shrugged off by senior management - "There is no Venmo, we are all One Team". This response (and the resulting fallout in the following years) is a fairly accurate representation of senior management and their reputation as a whole. Unchecked attrition in 2022 is putting the company into an even more severe situation - this unprecedented loss of valuable talent and knowledge is going to have negative effects on the company and product for the indeterminate future. PayPal has been completely incapable of taking any actions to curtail this exodus.
