Pros
Ski pass. Fun Industry to work in. Subsidiary of Vail Resorts--which seem to have their stuff together! If you just want a job for the season that you don't invest your heart and passions in, it's a good choice.
Cons
As with the other employees--I would agree in that training is very minimal. I am a smart cookie--and was able to figure out the multitude of computer programs I was required to use on my own. However, it seems very useless to me that they pay astronomical amounts for their employees to use certain software (i.e. Salesforce, the new computer program they rolled out last winter which was a nightmare) and the company as a whole doesn't know how to use it or take advantage of the information provided. Not to mention, in their corporate office, there are so many overworked people! Combining job titles and work loads! Especially the IT department. Poor guys and gals! Also, I was very displeased with the management in my region. Very demanding. Very discouraging. Very close-minded to any new ideas or anything marketing related (which was my field). Not proactive with expectations, training, and especially support (in what you are doing, would like to do, and any achievements you see in the distance). It is extremely difficult to succeed when you work hard to achieve new business or new ideas and the management wants to do everything the same way they always have--which obviously is not going to churn results. There is no progress in stagnation. Tenure is valued for promotional opportunities on occasion, however, some upper level managers do not deserve to be in management--as it involves leadership, which is as everyone says, HIGHLY lacking. If there was ever a company that "goes through the motions" to make it look good on the surface, it's this one. They have the season kick offs where the corporate people come and feel good that they have memorized your name and try to pump you up, but as soon as they leave--everything remains the same. If I were you, I would just go work for Vail Resorts directly (who owns this company). They are progressive. I would begin to open new doors for our company just to have someone tie my hands say that it can't be done (without trying it), and then demand an answer as to why sales are down. In turn, several employees--including most managers feel very undervalued. I have seen them drink (or be drunk) on the job, smoke a plethora of marijuana and do other drugs just to cope with the day-to-day pressures. I was reprimanded for communicating deficiencies to upper level management hat were limiting our business opportunities, so I stayed mum about what I saw going on--as the Area manager couldn't be any more aware of how zapping his attitude was. I am very happy that I did not go back again--as I can't imagine my personal well being and value being undermined another winter season. However, a valuable experience in showing me that company culture is very important to me and my well-being as a person.
