Pros

UPS is a solid company that has been in business since 1907. It is one of the largest delivery companies worldwide delivering 15 million packages per day to over 6 million customers in 220 countries. The company has a national contract negotiated by the Teamsters Union for hourly employees and pays a full-time worker between $25-$35 dollars per hour plus time and a half for over 8 hours per day. Managers and supervisors are paid on average 20% more than the hourly wage. The full-time hourly employees have a benefit package in their contract that equals an additional $12-$19 dollars per hour for medical and retirement benefits. Full-time managers and supervisors have an inferior medical plan and retirement but as they advance will receive substantial bonuses of stock. An hourly career at UPS will put you in a upper middle class position and management can earn over $100k per year or more.

Cons

UPS has a guards verses the inmates mentality. Management rightfully expects production from their employees yet is extremely aggressive in its procedures and policies. Harassment in the company is rampant on both management and hourly employees. Many employees would trade this lifestyle of massive overtime and stress of production for lower paying jobs for a better quality of life. The part-time employees have been overlooked for decades. The starting wage in 1984 was $8 per hour. Three decades later the starting wage in $8.50 per hour. In many locations it can take 13 years to get a full-time job at UPS because they have thousands of part-time employees working full-time hours at part-time wages.

Pros

The pay is excellent .health care is 100 % paid with 100 %coverage...with exception to eye and dental which is about 70%..coverage...pension is outstanding..full package with wages and benefits is worth 130,000 yearly..without a college education I am grateful for the standard of living UPS HAS AFFORDED ME AND MY FAMILY!...and with 27 years of service I now get 6 weeks vacation with 8 sick days..and 9 paid holidays...we work hard like many people in the work force but we are well compensated!.

Cons

The only con is while your children are young you give up a lot of family time..I never got to watch my kids play sports and missed a lot of their growing years...the job can be hard on your home life but if you can make it through those years you and your family will enjoy the financial freedom that UPS provides...and now I look forward to a prosperous retirement!...so hang in there all you young drivers...
