Pros

There are very few bright spots working at this place. The only one I can think of is that for full time employees, vacation and holidays are OK and there is a 401k match.

Cons

The management is horrible, practically incompetent. There is little to no respect for others and their expertise or opinions. The turnover is incredibly high. I can't even count how many Executive Directors there have been in the past couple years. So don't even bother getting to know any fundraisers, they will be gone in a matter of weeks. Don't be fooled by these bogus positive reviews they are posting -- avoid working at this place at all costs, in all locations, at all levels. There is no room for growth, learning, or employee development. The organizational culture is terrible, and makes you sick having to go into the office every day.

Pros

Good benefits, you really do help people

Cons

Human Resources takes a highly specialized approach to talent management. In that you cannot really change functions easily in UNHCR. You have to hyper-specialize in one area. So if you are a protection staff, you tend to burn out from trauma without an internal mechanism to alleviate the burnout. The higher you go in UNHCR, the crazier you become.
