Pros

Good Pay, Good Scheduling Flexibility, Great Co-Workers. This for most people is all you need, so as a part-time retail job it is okay.

Cons

There is absolutely ZERO promoting within the company. Scratch that. You can work your way to the top as one of my current store managers did by marrying one of our former managers. Now they both hold management positions within the company. If you aren't FAKE for the entire day and follow every single little corporate rule like a good little sheep, you will have no chance of getting any type of well paying position. This company puts on a facade of being this great company that ONLY cares about it's employees and its customers. FALSE. They are a business like anyone else and it ALWAYS comes down to $$$. Their products have insanely large markups and they are making a HEALTHY profit. Why else would they offer us (employees) 40% off regular merchandise and 50% off Elfa products? I can guarantee they are still making a profit at those discounts. A great example I have of their "generosity" was a year or so ago when they were donating 5% of sales of one of their products to charity. Well, what the great minds at the Container Store did was increase the price of the product by 5% during this entire "charity drive". They weren't donating a dime, it was the customers who were donating to the pockets of the Container Store. If you are going here to work part-time I suggest this. For the first 3-months show them everything they want to see. Be friendly with all the mangers even if you don't like them. Follow every rule and never be late or call out from a shift. Always be one of the hardest workers. After they give you your initial review and decide whether to keep you as part-time, you can drop the act and just go there to clock-in and clock-out. No need to kiss the managers ass all day every day because you most likely wont get promoted unless you are a sheep, and they won't fire you for not acting fake. As long as you clock-in on time and follow the rules, they can't say anything.

Pros

The Container Store has the most thorough training process of any company I've worked for. The environment was nice, and my coworkers and managers were all great. The employee discount is significant.

Cons

I applied because I was not getting the hours I was promised by my other part-time retail job. During the hiring process, they said I could work as many hours as I wanted, up to 29 hours per week. They did not mention until I was hired and asking for my hours that hours are dependent on how many customers you get to sign up for the rewards program. As a cashier, everyone I checked out who was not a part of the rewards program and did not want to be counted against me. Customers who are already a part of it don't factor in. I could check out 40 people in a shift, only have 5 who weren't part of the program, and only get 2 of them to sign up, and I would be penalized for that with my hours. If you work floor shifts and sign people up on the floor, it's able to boost your score since you don't interact with non-rewards members who don't want to join the system at all, but I was never offered floor shifts. They expected a 60-70% conversion rate, which is not realistic. Most people who want to be part of the program already are, and those who aren't typically aren't willing to even hear your 20-second pitch about it.
