Pros

At Target, pay is very competitive in comparison to other retail establishments. There is opportunity for development and advancement. However, I truly believe this portion of it has much to do with the District and Group leadership. How supportive and interested your store manager is in your personal development makes a big difference. Unfortunately, I believe it comes down to a "who you know" situation in some cases. Otherwise, Target is serious about training and is always looking to improve in that area. With this company, in a management position, you'll surely learn much about business. Target is on the cutting edge of retail and makes improvements to their systems all the time.

Cons

They do claim to focus on work life balance, but I feel you really have to get it for yourself. If you care about your job and want to see success, it is very easy to work 65+ hours. Not everyone does this of course. Just be careful and take care of yourself. Also, recognition in my career trended downward at a steady rate. I personally had not received a bit of recognition in the time that I worked there from my store manager. This was the case for all managers in similar positions. As a company, Target has a ways to go as far as recognition. Again, this will be different in each store, even in each district. It really depends on the focus of the area. Feedback in my store was pathetic. I got virtually no feedback. Even when requesting it, it had no substance and was inconsistent. This element will be unique in each store. Even with all of this, Target is a great company, but each district and store is unique and you'll find different experiences in each store. This is just mine.
