Pros

Got a company vehicle to go out in the field

Cons

SAFETY: safety is an absolute joke, although they push it heavily requiring you to fill out a form every day that says the same thing twice and asks you if your fit for duty at quitting time . I alerted a project manager of a possible safety issue. I was ignored and in two weeks later it happened. I was told to tone down the report I filed or I would be fired even though it was an accurate indication of what happened. I then, with others, had more incidents and we were told in private not to put certain ones in the report or we would probably be taken off the project AKA fired. There is an environment that nobody says anything. I have seen employees who are bleeding and needed medical attention, and they did not mention it to any supervision because they did not want to go through the hassle That Stantec puts them through or they were afraid they would be fired. Stantec pushes safety so much that it creates an unsafe environment. They need a hard relook at the whole safety program it is out of control. Supervision: they don’t GAF about you and only care about the bottom line and if the job getting done on time. If I have been in the field for 3 months doing the same thing 125 times a day and make a request or alert you to a potential issue chances are I know what I’m talking about. When that potential issue is now a stop work problem that affects 100 people that could have been resolved 2 days ago with no interruption. There is no excuse for that. We had weekly meetings to plan the week ahead and talk about what happened the week prior. All suggestions were 100% ignored. Some items have been brought up for 7 weeks straight and we are still getting ignored.

Pros

Hybrid Work and access to useful engineering tools

Cons

Projects are inconsistent in organization and structure (some good some bad). High (and strict) utilization requirements of >93% for entry level and mid level engineers results in overtime with overlapping work loads to avoid any downtime between projects. No development or mentorship strategy around work assignments, the main goal is to keep utilization up. Stantec has been very focused on cutting costs by offshoring, limiting conference attendance, reducing volunteer hours, no tuition reimbursement, multiple layers of approvals to attend in-office CPR training, etc. Very corporate environment and top heavy management with over 240+ “Vice Presidents” currently at the company. Difficult to get raises/promotions besides annual raise. Typical raise is ~3-5% with a good review depending on where your current salary is in relation to the pay range for your career level.
