Non-Managerial staff are the best and friendliest people you will meet. Technical staff are skilled despite no support from senior management for training. Expected to keep yourself updated.
Cons
Do not believe any review claiming that the Technology department is a great place to work. Long term staff are leaving or choosing redundancy in their droves. Ask about current retention levels of long-term staff? The Director believes high turnover of experienced staff is a good thing for business, every part of technology has been hit. Claim for flexible working, but expect to be monitored for attendance. Great and Knowledgeable staff are cast aside in favour of "direction" from expensive consultancy firms, who have little to no expertise in the product they deliver, support is none existent after. Ask for training and no budget exist, unless you happen to be one of the favoured "Graduate Scheme" employees, for which there seems to be unlimited money. Career progression only occurs for a favoured few, don’t expect promotions. The wider company thrives itself on putting technology at the heart of its operations, it a shame that its on life support at the moment. A management team that are ignorant of the issues of the staff that work beneath them, only there to please the director who in turn only wants to keep the CIO happy. A quarterly "anonymous" survey is used gauge the employee satisfaction, management happy with below 50% satisfaction. It's a rudderless ship, no direction, no real sense of leadership or strategy. Those planning the future of the company read a couple of articles before a meeting so that they can wing through sounding competent. Technology that doesn't match with end goals is usually selected. Overall, if you want your Technology career to be left in the past in a poor department then join. Otherwise steer well clear, you will probably find better roles at pay levels better than offered.
