Pros

-Overall good work-life balance -Employer-sponsored pension -Very good health benefits -HSA and dependent care FSA can save families money -If you're in the right department, your daily work can be fulfilling and engaging.

Cons

-A huge con is that the organization has a policy that managers cannot be references for their direct reports. So you could do amazing work for years but your manager can't tell anyone because HR bans it. This puts people who worked here at a severe disadvantage when looking for other jobs, and it would make me reluctant to take a job there had I known about it before I worked there. -How your job will be completely depends on your department. Some departments are truly like a family, and others have significant turnover due to poor departmental management. -Some managers would rather coddle poor performers than admit they made a hiring mistake and use progressive discipline to terminate incompetent employees. This results in others being punished with more work because they are competent. -There is little room for career advancement beyond Business Representative level unless someone high up likes you and makes a job for you. -The members can be very difficult to deal with and often treat you poorly (especially background actors). Producers can be wonderful or the absolute worst. -The pay is low for the type of work we do, especially for people with JDs. -Before the pandemic, they refused to let Business Reps work remotely even though 99% of the work they do can be done remotely. Post-pandemic, I wouldn't be surprised they bring this policy back, which would be a shame. -They lay people off via video conference where you can't even talk to the people who are terminating your employment. Pretty cold and heartless.

Pros

The mission is meaningful and the benefits package is cool

Cons

Work-life balance is poor. The workload and expectations feel consistently high, and coverage isn’t reliable, when things get busy, support can be inconsistent. The biggest issue is fairness: there’s a noticeable pay gap even within the same team for comparable work, and it’s hard not to feel discouraged when people doing the same job are compensated very differently. It also doesn’t feel like a true team. Accountability is uneven, and when some employees disengage or avoid work, the same few people end up carrying the load to keep everything running. Leadership responsiveness can be inconsistent, and representation and inclusion efforts don’t always feel reflected in decision-making.
