Cons
Too much stress from shoreside management who create systems that though on paper sound great, in practice they are time consuming and frustrating. Some of the policies they create anger the guests who then take it out on the staff. The create policies they expect you to impose, but when a guest complains, they throw you under the bus, leaving you to take the downfall. Something in the food is bad, perhaps they use saturated fats or trans fats - during my health checks, it was noted that my cholesterol levels had doubled. Due to stress my overall health was affected. It was recommended to head office, several times by visiting management, that I be transferred to another ship because the relationship between myself and my immediate supervisor was not a healthy one (she undermined me in front of the team, was unsupportive). However, they ignored this. I learnt that my head of department did not want me to be transferred and as they had so much clout with shoreside, I got stuck with a horrible supervisor, whom shoreside also knew was not a good boss. Yet they did nothing to change this, in the form of accountability. You work 7 days a week with no day off for months on end, depending on your position this could be from 4-6 months. Poor HR management policy and methods.
