Pros
The business and engineering aspect is very good (for the 1980s). A lot of time and effort is invested in my training and I have the opportunity to make a real difference to the company.
Cons
The organisation of the degree apprenticeship is an absolute shambles. No-one has the answers. Communication from the apprentice support function is poor leading to some apprentices studying the wrong qualification at college. The salary is competitive (when compared to a 16 year olds paper round) and some apprentices have had to stop their pension contributions from being taken via salary sacrifice, as this would result in them dropping below minimum wage. Apprentices are expected to perform at a very high standard in what can be a high stress environment due to production pressures. The pay is too low for the companies expectations of apprentices. "If there is no reward for good work ethic, and no consequences for bad work ethic, then how can you expect us to be motivated"
