Pros
- Other team members can really make the day go by fast - After a 3 month probation period, you can join the union and receive its various benefits, including dental, eyecare and job protection. - Presents an environment which can enable growth, should you rise to the challenge - Excellent discount on OTC drugs; discount on many other items isn't amazing.
Cons
- If you are receiving benefits from other jobs, of family members, the union can be useless. For example "job security" should not be a problem if you are doing your job anyway. So whether you are using the union fees or not, there will be union dues you must pay. - Hours are atrocious if you are just starting. There is a seniority system the company must abide by meaning that when you are just starting you might get at most, 10 hours a week. I simply CANNOT advise this if you were like me and needed the hours for living expenses/tuition - Managers can be a pain sometimes, but name a workplace that doesn't experience something like this - Not enough staff. You are expected to run a small to medium sized store with a minimal amount of staff, often pushing every member to their limits. Every team member is expected to know how to do everything; stock, zone, cash, garbage, property protection, lottery etc.
