Inconsistent Experience Based on Individual Managers Whether you have a positive or negative experience at Red Bull comes down ENTIRELY to the luck of the draw with your manager. There is absolutely no consistency across teams, which creates a concerning “lottery system” of leadership. Within the same team you'll have one person who somehow is able to come into the office for a couple hours a week without issue, and another person is held to a completely different standard. There are no established norms throughout the company, let alone within teams specifically. Politics Over Performance Success at Red Bull often hinges on your ability to play the political game and fake niceties. Even if you try to avoid it, office politics will catch up with you. Certain individuals are inexplicably protected by long-standing leadership, despite being completely misaligned with Red Bull’s core values in both behavior and work ethic. Inequity in Contribution and Job Security Many employees contribute little to nothing, yet remain secure in their roles due to siloed team structures and lack of oversight. Meanwhile, hard-working individuals are frequently overlooked, and even let go during the company’s frequent reorganizations (if I'm not mistaken they've had 9 in the last 12 years). Questionable Reorg Practices The most recent reorg notably excluded key operations teams like Legal and Finance, and I've heard through colleagues that legal is the most dysfunctional and toxic team at the company. The lack of restructuring in these areas allows ongoing issues to remain hidden or swept under the rug. Toxic, Entrenched Leadership Toxic managers—many of whom have been with the company for several years—often act with impunity. Their longevity in the organization seems to shield them from accountability, even though countless employees within their team and externally complain about them to one another on a regular basis. If you report to one of them, upward mobility is virtually nonexistent. They tend to keep their teams stagnant and work hard to isolate their teams in order to protect themselves. Concerns re Culture & Retaliation There are troubling signs of a sexist culture. I personally know someone who was fired for reporting inappropriate behavior. Lots of conversations happen under the radar and people are afraid to speak up because they're afraid of retaliation.
