Pros

Job Stability: As a major defense contractor, there is a sense of security here that you don't always get in the commercial tech sector. Benefits & Compensation: The benefits package (medical, 401k matching, and the Employee Scholar Program) is very competitive. They are willing to pay for advanced degrees, which is a massive plus if you are early or mid-career.

Cons

Bureaucracy: Things move slowly. Simple approvals can take weeks, and there are a lot of legacy processes that feel outdated. You have to be patient to get things done. Legacy Technology: Depending on the program you are placed on, you might be working with very old tech stacks or tools. It can sometimes feel difficult to keep your skills on the "cutting edge" if you get stuck on a sustainment project.

Pros

I worked at Raytheon for over 4 years and had a great experience. The company provided many learning and growth opportunities. I was promoted twice during my tenure with the company, and my responsibility increased significantly. I felt like my management supported me and provided me with the career mentorship that I was seeking. I felt empowered and respected during my time there.

Cons

It can be difficult to work at such a large defense contractor company because of all the process and red tape. Things can move slowly, you have to be patient and pick your battles. That being said, if you learn how to work within the system, you can make a significant impact here!
