Pros
Health and safety for the first time in my 10 year career and 4 dealers now the RAC, has actually be fun and interesting and very informative. Health and safety is massive at the RAC and they look at near misses or accidents very closely with our on board dash cam footage to put measures in place to ensure we all get to make it home after working in our challenging environment at the road side. State of the art equipment and uniform with regular maintenance, this keeps us all working at full potential. Willing to train, very understanding of backgrounds of different employees, in the first week of the induction I asked about additional support for electrical diagnostics and was told the trainer could refer me to my local centre for a week intense course, putting training and believing in me from week one was a great feeling and took the pressure off a lot, most places like to see what you're made of before committing to you where as the RAC really do want to see you excel which is why for me they are the best Automotive employer out there!!!
Cons
Super flex contracts are restrictive compared to core and opportunities to earn more via over time is capped. The core guys can opt in for more hours to take their basic up but also have a fantastic overtime rate. Seems a little unfair when the RAC gets the luxury of sending me away for up to 6 weeks at a time and that can happen 6 times a year. Everyone likes to know how to earn more and so far apart from battery and fixing sales I don't see where I can earn more. The basic grabs your attention but when explained you feel a little hard done by compared to the core guys but once you're in there is never going to be a time you can't try and get the core contract with whatever works for you. I hope the RAC reviews overtime options and rates for flex employees but this is a very small issue for myself as the pay is great just a couple tweaks required in my opinion still wouldn't stop me taking any chance I could get to get into the RAC.
