Pros

Employees take pride in their work. Fun to work with customers and co-workers. Manager is very understanding about working with your schedule when you're part time. Great opportunities for advancement, but it takes a LONG time to get there. Also, the money can become VERY GOOD if you can stick it out for 10 years or so. The attitude at the company is positive overall. Easy to get meetings with any level of management in the store with their "open door" policy. I'm very grateful and happy to be working there!

Cons

Be prepared to PAY YOUR DUES before you become full time or have any opportunities for advancement. I was very disappointed to learn that there were very capable people who had been there 4 years and were working full-time hours, but had not yet received full-time status. It's very hard to stick it out with the low pay and difficult work until you get promoted. Our manager is often condescending and impatient with employees in front of customers, which can be humiliating if you don't have a tough shell. Work in the deli is very mentally and physically taxing; don't try it if you're scared of hard work!! The nightly cleaning process is gruelling and tedious, but at least I can say that Publix has very strictly enforced sanitation standards and customers can feel really good about purchasing items there!

Pros

Amazing 401K, free stock after one year of employment, health insurance is very good for part-time employees if only getting it for yourself, management always approves time off requests, hours are always available, will work around school schedules, tuition reimbursement program, will reimburse you for gas for work-related expenses as needed and will put you in a hotel as needed for work-related reasons that are more than 50 miles from your home.

Cons

Not every store is the same, some stores are run better than others, some managers look down upon people with disabilities, and some see people with disabilities the same as someone without disabilities, they are very big about favoritism, you have to work a lot to earn a vacation, the company does not give out sick time and full-time gets the most benefits and is next to impossible to get full-time. Also, you practically have to be a former employee with a clean record or related in some way to a current employee to get a job with the company though Kentucky Publix's don't quite function that way.
