Pros

Lots of processes, which is helpful when starting a new position. HR processes, training processes, new equipment processes etc. HR makes you feel welcome. I had several red flags though during the Onboarding which should have made me think twice.

Cons

So many but during start process it was clear there is very little regard for employees and trying to work within their timelines so as to ensure a smooth start process. As example, I was made a written offer, which I accepted. They told me they would follow up w paperwork start date training in NY etc etc. I then gave my 2 week notice at my job, thinking I'd be starting within a couple/few weeks. That was April I didn't end up starting until the end of JULY!!! Three months without a paycheck - unbelievable. They kept giving excuses, trying to firm up the date, training date was delayed, internal reorg caused delay etc. it put me and my family in the worst financial position and they didn't seem to take it seriously at all. I can go on and on, multiple experiences like this. Boss that hired me was in another Dept by the time I started. Replacement boss was a nightmare. Interviewed and was hired for one role (my area of expertise), then entire job description and duties changed by the time I started. Left in the first year. Worst job experience I've had in 15 years in payments industry. I'm assuming my experience was not typical and all of the planets lined up in the worst way because it seemed like it could have been a great place with great Oppy. I did meet some very nice and talented people but very odd environment in general.

Pros

Mastercard does a great job fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. There are genuinely good people throughout the organization, and leadership often invests in employee engagement through events, recognition, and culture-building initiatives. I enjoyed many of the relationships I built while working there, and there are teams that truly care about collaboration and supporting one another.

Cons

Compensation at the director level did not feel competitive compared to the level of responsibility expected. Career advancement can also be extremely challenging due to how top-heavy the organization is with senior leadership roles. There are a large number of Senior Vice Presidents, sometimes without clear scope or experience aligned to the title, which creates limited room for high-performing employees to grow. At times, it felt like senior leaders were being hired primarily to manage or communicate with other senior leaders, rather than drive meaningful operational impact. In product and go-to-market roles especially, priorities are often heavily driven by funding decisions. It can be frustrating when projects suddenly shift in importance or remain underfunded for long periods of time while awaiting senior leadership review. This sometimes leaves highly talented employees in limbo, unable to move initiatives forward despite strong momentum or market opportunity. The organization can also be very comfortable with the status quo, which creates a slower pace that many employees seem accustomed to. For people who are highly motivated and eager to drive change, it can feel difficult to navigate the number of roadblocks and layers of approval required to move initiatives forward.
