Pros
It’s a typical retail job that has the basic retail ups and downs. If you work with the right people it will be fine, assuming you like being on your feet for hours at a time, sometimes 8 hours during peak holiday time. Candy is fun to talk about and it can usually make customers happy assuming they are willing to spend the money. You do get to sample a lot of candy, good or bad depending on your diet.
Cons
It’s a typical retail job. You’ll be on your feet the whole time with only 15 minutes to sit and eat something at a break. You’ll like some people and not like others. There were a few times where I felt like I shouldn’t take a break because we were busy, one time where I was almost denied a break. They’re all about sales, you’re expected to almost hover around customers offering them baskets and trying to upsell, rather than letting them shop on there own and answer any questions when needed. Corporate has its own issues, we often didn’t have full stock of items, and they can’t seem to decide if we should always be looking busy or never doing tasks while costumes are around. The prices in this store are steep and you will always have customers complaining about the price, you’d think they would realize we are basically minimum wage retail associates but they don’t. You will have to deal with this. The 50% employee discount is nice but sometimes not even worth it. Basically, if you think you can handle the physical demands of a retail job and feel the management at your particular location is good, go for it. Don’t be scared to give it up if it’s not for you.
