The company doesn't want to see itself as a tech company. Therefore they don't have high ambitions for their product and don't want to spend the money to hire/retain talented or experienced engineers.
Most teams don't know where they are going, there is very low ambition, which leads to:
- toxic work atmosphere
- not focusing on quality
- no career plan whatsoever
- taking too many shortcuts
- promoting people based on relations/guangxi(instead of achievements)
- giving responsibility to unqualified people
- time pressure
- investor driven
- absence of strategy
In my opinion it's mostly because teams are lead by incompetent management (team leads and higher) but also because upper management is unaware of what's going on in their company, they should be more present, talk more with their employees and take appropriate measures.
