Not perfect, but best place I've ever worked - Director KPMG Employee Review

Pros

Great people, collegial atmosphere most of the time, decent benefits, generous time off, strong values and good leadership in most parts of the firm.

Cons

There are plenty of partners and leaders who do NOT live up to KPMG's values, which are heavily and consistently talked about and promoted throughout the firm. Certain individuals are allowed to continue to mistreat and/or abuse more junior staff members simply because they're "rainmakers" and the firm wouldn't want to cut them loose. Also, the gender discrimination issue is still very much a thing. This year's promotions "process" demonstrated that very clearly. It's pretty frustrating to see female colleagues working their tails off and taking on extra workload, only to not get promoted, because a few men have been "in line" longer. That's not supposed to be what promotions are based on (according to every HR presentation I've ever seen on this topic), yet that's how it went down this year. Very frustrating.

Pros

It might sound cliche but the Pro for me is the people that I work with. I'm lucky enough to be staffed in a team with great leadership. Managers are actually willing to coach junior members and be a real mentor. I very much appreciate their efforts.

Cons

Long hours and office politics. This is pretty basic and obvious for any public accounting firms. Every time a quarter end, year end, or a special filing is going out, you can expect 10-14 hour days. It might be fine in your early career but it gets really tiring after a few years.
