they don't really care about you, it's all about rating and revenue - Port Lecturer Holland America Line Employee Review

Pros

free room and board; free travel; they fly you to wherever you need to go to join a ship; (at least they did for me in my position); get to travel the world and go to places you could never afford; meet a ton of co-workers from all over the world, which might come in handy if you go to where they live; freedom on days off to join a tour or wander about on your own; great adventures. I don't regret working for HAL.

Cons

Long work schedule; but the perk is the travel. Managers who are bullies or who see you as a threat... should be fired and not kept simply because they bring in revenue; Staff should be allowed greater discounts on cruises; Serious issues with communication skills in many entry-level management positions; they need to offer courses in Body Language, Demeanor, Tone of Voice, etc. not just "management" skills.....
