Pros
Most people are smart and genuinely love what they do and constantly strive to help others, and do whats best for the company.
Cons
Very old school traditional company. Very formal work-place atmosphere. Frequent incidents of nepotism vs. hiring from within, or the best & brightest externally. Has a VERY outdated dress code policy. They say it's business casual, but suits are the norm for all levels except Phone Agents and IT. Vacation/PTO policy is archaic and the company BARELY recognizes holidays. (i.e. Most similarly sized corporations recognize Thanksgiving and the day after thanksgiving, or New Years eve and New Years day where HAL doesn't, and expects you to use your limited vacation days or work. Fair enough but this can be an unexpected paradigm shift if you're arriving from another company. On-site cafeteria is awful and there are no other walkable alternatives. There is no onsite parking. There are a couple lots that employees can sign up for a space, but the spots are very limited, and there is a very long waiting list. Those on the waiting list and contractors are limited to street and other high-priced pay lots in a very congested neighborhood. Bus service to building is limited. Tends to higher contractors instead of investing in personnel, the high turn over can making working with some groups difficult.
