Cruise Ship Musician (Bassist) - Musician Holland America Line Employee Review

Pros

There were many great aspects of working on the ship as a musician. I did the Alaskan season, an 18 day to Hawaii contract and two weeks in Mexico jazz charters. The EM'a were very reasonable and there was good communication to the bands. The ports were stellar and the food was AMAZING on the Lido deck! I met a lot of guests on the ship who were just great people. Fellow musicians and crew members were all very easy to get along with.

Cons

The only thing I would caution any musician about would be the length of time pertaining to their contract. Mine turned into 6 months. This was too long for me to be on a ship. 3-4 months is an average length of time. Had I kept it to the original 3.5 months, I probably would have enjoyed my time more...the last couple of months on the ship were "trying" at best.
