Pros

- Staff in stores generally work well together and support each other while showing a sense of family to one another - Opportunities for training and development are easily attained - Staff discount is available across H&M and it's sister companies

Cons

- The area team are at the heart of all issues within the company. The area team largely consists of those who have received undeserved promotions and are a constant symbol of the rife favoritism within the company. The area team offer no support to stores other than constant criticism which is delivered in ways intended to belittle and intimidate staff. Area team have no clue of the reality of running a store and regularly provide expectations which are completely unachievable which only serve to stress out and demotivate staff. Ultimately, the area team show no appreciation for their staff and this has resulted in a rapidly increasing rate of staff turnover. - Salaries for any sort of management roles are laughable, particularly in comparison to that of the company's competitors. Salaries in contrast to workload are unbelievable and not worth the stress and grueling workload. Management in smaller stores receive awful pay yet have the most stress which is unfair. There is also no overtime pay, yet overtime is expected of staff anyway. - Staff may be expected to transfer to different stores which may not be easily accessible to them at request of the area team. Those who decline or are not seen as "flexible" are immediately in the bad books with the area team and are seen as less favorable members of staff. Work life balance is never taken into account. - Company expenditure has become extremely tight. Staff hours are regularly having to be cut in order to save money while creating a grueling workload for the rest of the staff. Staff required to travel to work early in the morning when public transport links are not running are now expected to fork out taxi fares from their own pocket. Rewards, bonuses and incentives have become increasingly rare and unattainable which further demotivates staff. Zero Christmas bonus or any sort of recognition or appreciation shown to the staff in stores for their enormous workload during the busy Christmas period.

H&M Response

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We appreciate you mentioning the great teams we have in store and the progression opportunities that H&M offers. However, we are sorry to hear about the pressure you or your colleagues have been experiencing in store. We encourage an open-door policy where every employee should feel they can approach management to gain support in whatever challenges they are faced with. We know that our fast-paced environment can sometimes be intense and the hours in store can sometimes feel limited to achieve our common goals… But we are taking your feedback on board.
