Pros

Nice work life balance.

Cons

Before starting at Ecolab I read a lot of negative reviews about the place here on Glassdoor. Sadly to say these negative reviews about Ecolab were not just rants from angry former and current employees. The cons you read about Ecolab on Glassdoor are true to a large degree no matter which group you end up working in. Here is my review based the time I spent at Ecolab. Buyer beware! I worked for Ecolab in their IT area. One of the biggest problems in working for Ecolab IT is that all work is done in a silo. Groups do not play well together, and it is a challenge to get your work done within Ecolab IT’s “bottoms up” leadership approach. This means leadership provides zero direction and guidance and all of the peons have to fight among themselves to make processes work. That is another problem. Ecolab IT is the most process adverse entity I have ever worked for. Creating repeatable processes save time and money for your company. Instead it is normal to recreate the wheel every time you need to get something done…and plan to fight the entire way because you are working up against a silo, with zero process, and zero leadership to guide you. There is zero leadership coming down from the Ecolab IT leadership group (the ELT or Executive Leadership Team). The ELT is made up of a bunch of 50+ year olds who were all well into their careers before the internet was even invented. They try and talk about "world class IT". What a joke. The entire IT infrastructure is as antiquated as its leadership. The next issue with working at Ecolab is that it is very non-progressive. Every company is legally required to say they do not discriminate, or that they welcome all people regardless of race, color, religion, etc. The truth of the matter is that you need to look at what Ecolab does versus what they say they will do. Actions speak a lot louder than words. There is one Black VP for the entire company. And he is only a junior VP. There is one token woman at their executive level (EVP). So in the year 2017 Ecolab only has one woman at the executive level and the highest ranking minority is only a junior VP…for a company this size?? MINORITIES AND WOMEN BEWARE!! This is the glass ceiling at Ecolab. Thank goodness for Glassdoor that you have the mechanism to get this warning upfront before putting years in. Other cons in working for Ecolab are the lack of internal promotion opportunities, the extremely low pay compared to other businesses in the market, and their dismal benefits. If you want just a "job" then Ecolab is right for you. If you want a career, go elsewhere.

Pros

The actual coworkers and team members are great. Everyone is super supportive and just trying to help each other out.

Cons

Management: There’s a huge disconnect between upper leadership and the people doing the day-to-day work. Goals and priorities change constantly with very little communication, and it often feels like micromanagement takes the place of actual guidance. Work-Life Balance: The workload is completely unsustainable. You’re expected to handle an overwhelming amount of work, but you aren't given the resources or staffing to actually get it done without burning out. Expecting people to constantly work over their hours has become the norm. Lack of Growth: Career progression is pretty much non-existent. Promises of promotions or career development are thrown around, but they rarely actually happen. There’s no clear pathway to move up, so it’s easy to feel stuck and stagnant.
