Pros

its all about who is YOUR leader...i started here in 08 as a cashier minimum wage, one week later I was promoted to ASM given a raise during the 11 months I worked MY BUTT off, i went around cleaned up stores on the SMART team (i was captain no extra pay) cleaned up for corporate visits (Kathleen for ex...) went on the shelving team also raised gondolas installed clipstrips etc i was given $1.00 more a hour for this...i worked many many many hours off the clock for my SM (totally against policy) yes STUPID of me....It all paid off I was promoted to SM in OCT 09...WOW!!! the store i walked into...lets just say YOU COULDNT WALK THRU THE FRONT DOOR! That bad, I cleaned my store, up increased sales, ran good numbers, made my bonuses every month, became a store manager trainer (no extra $) 9 months running the store at model store standards, my DM was strict he done the "white glove" test on my shelves, sunglass rack, ice cream cooler etc...he wasnt playing around....Time to move up...I was transfered to a bigger town...bigger store....got a raise...sounded nice...LOL until I get there and find out my ASM is making over 15 an hour totally not worth it...she did nothing 7 write ups on her and still couldnt get rid of her....i was told to do what I had to just get my store clean and do it quick...I had no one to help me it was me, myself, and I...impossible w/ over 500 customers coming thru my doors daily...I broke policy knowing Id lose my job but hoping I wouldnt get caught...I would of lost my job either way once my RM came in...so i took the chance.......i have now been promoted to customer.....

Cons

Pros

You have an opportunity to create good good relationships with your customers.

Cons

There is no work life balance. If you’re a store manager you’re expected to be there 24/7 if necessary. You’re also salary, so you’re paid for a flat 40 hours but required to schedule yourself for a minimum of 48 hours. No holiday pay, no overtime. You have access to two types of bonuses but they’re IF you qualify for them. You get little to no support from upper management and constantly told you’re not doing enough. They don’t care if you’re having staffing issues and still expect you to get the truck completely worked in 2 days and the store to be 100% recovered daily, even if you’re alone. Then they’ll either look for ways to write you up to terminate you or push you until you quit.
