Pros

-work/life balance is good, for the most part. most people work 8-5, the parking lot is cleared out by 6. -on-site gym is good, though not spectacular (would have expected a little more from a sporting goods company ). towel service is included!!! -friendly employees, great culture -facilities are very new, cubicles are spacious -yearly sample sale is terrific. -growing store base rapidly, unlike most retailers -Pittsburgh is actually a great city to live in -non-competitive and relaxed culture -cool marketing campaigns and partnership with ESPN

Cons

-work/life balance is dependent on position. you could have the same title as someone else and be working 50% more. -remote location by the airport is not the best. long commute from the city and still 15 minutes away from food/shops. -very few minorities (black, hispanic, asian). the corporate office is probably 95% white. -low salaries and limited vacation days -college hires are a mixed bag in terms of talent. 80% is composed of fashion merchandising majors who couldn't get jobs at real fashion companies (Gap, Macy's, JCrew, etc.) and can't do math, marketing majors who can't do math, and finance majors who can't do math (because if you were a finance major who could do math, you probably would have had a real finance job offer and be making a lot more money), or in a few cases, unabashed nepotism. 20% are actually talented and move up quickly or leave. -corporate office looks down with contempt at the store organization. there have been many attempts to fix this, but the holier-than-thou attitude is still pervasive (I once heard someone repeatedly refer to store employees as "monkeys") -some outdated technologies -just FYI, you are not working in "sports", you are working in retail.

Pros

Employee Discount Opportunity to provide customers an experience in which they can be confident in buying a new shoe for style, function and support-related reasons. Great selling tools, devices and display fixtures to work with

Cons

This is not really a con since I believe it is an important part of the job. Newer and current workers may need to keep up up to date and do research on products in order to be able to help customers effectively and efficiently.

Pros

Employee Discount Access to Expert voice, which seems like no one tells you about, That's about it.

Cons

The biggest problem is there's no defined end to the night. We're scheduled until 9pm, but it's become normal to stay an hour, two hours, sometimes even longer past that because leadership keeps adding more tasks and finding new things to fix after everything is already done. It feels like the goalposts constantly move. My availability hasn't always been respected, communication has been poor, and there's a huge difference in accountability between employees. The people who work hard and stay busy all night end up staying just as late as the people standing around talking or doing nothing. Instead of addressing the actual productivity issues, everyone gets held hostage until leadership decides the store is finally good enough. I've worked retail for years, and every other place I've worked had a clear definition of what needed to be done before you could leave. Here, it feels like there is no finish line, which makes it impossible to plan your life around a part-time job. The discount and perks are nice, but the lack of consistency, the constantly changing expectations, and the uncertainty about when you're actually going home have made the job a lot more frustrating than it needs to be. If you're thinking about working here and want to work night shifts, plan on staying well past your scheduled end time until someone tells you it's "ok to leave". I was told I needed to ask for permission before clocking out, great leadership skills.
