Pros

schedules can be somewhat flexible. Almost anyone can be hired to work the general sales floor. Starting pay is around $8/hr,. good job for someone who is results oriented and likes working with the public. The focus is customer service first and trying to outshine the competition in that area.

Cons

Sometimes the measurables ( SWEET, socks with each and every transaction, Scorecards, UPT's, average sale, warranties, and conversion) are used to make employees feel that they aren't working hard enough. these goals are set really high and on days when they are met it's great. but then when the store is consistent on meeting goals the bar is raised higher and higher. the result can be decreasing morale. For example SWEET was 14% and now the new goal is 18%; Scorecard transactions was 75%, now it is 80%; average sale over the holidays was $50, now it is $60. In this economy it can be really hard to suggest add-ons to strapped customers who are only coming in for specific items and have no intention on spending more money. Also, there is never payroll to fully staff the sales floor or the registers. sometimes one associate will be trying to cover several departments. we are also expected to recover the store to almost perfection every night and that can be hard when there is only one person in a department.
