Pros

- everyone is smiley genuiny, made the work place very good to be - people are professional with great work social network - had never overtime, the culture being start to wrap up by 5.30 and leave on the dot, happy days! - acquires tremendous specialist skills in the first two years, it's fascinating

Cons

- easy trapped and staying in a company with limited career and professional development Because it is kinda easy life, colleagues all having great time at work , business or social drinking during lunch , days easily passed and not realised you stayed 3+ and now what? What skills had gained besides the first two years hiting the steep learning curve? - besides company relies on relationship when hiring rather than competence, if you are son or daughter of some directors guarantee a manager position already, you will be taken extra care at work. Extraordinarily praise on trivial task that you done. Pretty like a TV show at work indeed! Therefore it's not weight up on how hard work I put and the reward I would get. Part of the reason I left. Basically I see I won't go anywhere for an ambitious employee. - old school - male dominant and even during business meeting throw ridiculous sexist joke which opened my eyes. If you are pretty at work, all the old big belly managers will like to come to your desk during work to throw a few jokes make sure everyone knows they still got the charm. There is a time a bald manager came to me and show his photo when he was twenties when we were in the kitchen, I did not even work with him!! It's pretty odd incident. - don't rely on year end appraisal to assess ur performance and hoping for salary increase. It's just a paper work. They give whatever pay rise they like. Instead make ur own record of ur achievements, not bound to the HR form and use them to renegotiate ur salary. Anything u think not factor into ur salary rise u need to step up and speak directly to ur manager with all the records of how you added value to the business and if they don't anything, it's clear sign it's time to go. In my case, I had obtained the level what I needed and further confirmed I don't belong to the company as it had limited my professional growth.
