Pros

- Good Networking - Capital One hires from good schools who eventually make great career - which makes it a great place to develop some good contacts - Good Training on business which is not common with other companies - Very aggressive and competitive place - where all aspects of an associate will be measured and trained to succeed - Great bonus - meaning good 401K, flexspend, education reimb in some dept - The company has a very unique culture - they train you to be very assertive, to be able to sell your ideas, findings and recommendations - Great training on Communications, Presentation, People and Leadership skills - The top leaders in the company are very good in making the right choices and driving the company (but some of the middle management - stats managers and directors, business managers and directors really kill the spirit of the associates - basically suck)

Cons

- wayyyy below average compensation atleast at the performer level - compared to industry standards - Absolutely no work life balance - the work is never ending and it is not directly correlated with the revenues. Meaning we sometime have do a lot of BS unnecessary work to please managers / leaders that doesnt have any ties whatsoever to making revenue or profit or cutting losses etc - Hard to grow within the company - unless the business or your team is growing - and the business is not growing since several years within US CARD - They tend to over emphasis or give more weightage on Communication and Presentation style rather than actual tangible accomplishments during performance review - Last several years, the management has placed tons of restrictions to associates moving within the company - eventhough it is an equal opportunity employer. I personally came across an associate who was not let by her manager to move to another team which was ready to hire her. The reason given by her manager was that the associate still needs sufficient development (BS) before she can move. This means any move within the company can only happen if your manager approves it - which kinda sucks

Pros

Pay can be decent compared to GovCon. Some people are a pleasure to work with. Other non-pay related incentives.

Cons

Never heard more nonsensical topics during meetings; people sharing their sexual preferences, flaunting overly dramatic personal lifestyle decisions, diversity to the point of failure, etc. Hearing the term "white guilt" in a professional setting was, well, pretty unprofessional. Stack ranking for performance reviews is a mess. Someone has to have an "F" regardless of their performance because that is what their line of business is allotted. Be prepared to be held responsible for actions any Sr Leadership would just sweep under the rug under their own circumstances. If a manager doesn't like you, regardless of your productivity, you're toast unless you're able to find another LoB to support. HR / AR are just a check in the box and will most likely point you from one to the other and back again without resolving any issues. You'll find yourself curious as to what leadership does as they continue to scrape managerial responsibilities from their plate, to yours. Last but certainly not least; you may find yourself working hard on a project; nights and weekends, just in case that work life balance is feeling a little too perfect. Fret not, someone will surely assist in taking credit for the hard work you've put in. I'm sure none of these things will happen to you, though. Best of luck!
