Pros

In my 1.5 years teaching on Cambly, I had over 60,000 minutes of talk time. I met over 3,000 students and for the most part enjoyed everyone. I had a 4.94 rating and was a super tutor. The relationships I built with my students were amazing.

Cons

I had weeks of reservations booked. I had a reservation that was to start in 2 hours. I randomly received an email 1 hour later saying I missed a reservation, which is impossible because I take a 2 hour lunch break. A few moments later I received another email saying my account was deactivated. Upon replying to the message trying to figure what happened, I received another email saying the decision was final. They gave me no warnings, no explanation as to what I did wrong and had no way of saying goodbye to my regular students, most of which I taught 5 days a week for more than a year. Everything is the tutors fault. Cambly thinks their system is perfect. One of my students was having issues connecting. They told him his internet is wasn’t fast enough. 5G is faster than the internet speed I was using. Instead of being a professional company and apologizing for the mistake, Cambly blames it on the paying student or the dime a dozen tutor. The pay is extremely low, they treat the tutors terribly. Students can cancel seconds before a lesson, whereas a tutor has to cancel within 12 hours. Do a google search “Cambly deactivated my account” You will see the same story as mine. I read these stories while I was working and though it was fake. But it’s not. Cambly will fire and replace you in seconds with no explanation at all!! Be careful!!!

Pros

Very flexible schedule (you create your own), can easily cancel classes without too much of a penalty (make every student that you like a "regular" student so that if you get penalized...only regulars can book you...you have a huge pool of regulars), Cambly provides lessons, you can use almost any website as long as you don't need to share login information, it's fun and easy, many students become like friends, you can learn about different countries, cultures, and languages

Cons

The pay. It has never increased in the 14 years that Cambly has been in business. They are starting to offer a new program called "Cambly Pro" where you can make $15 an hour, but you have to apply to be a tutor for it and you could be denied. You have to have a 99% rating for 3 months to even be considered. If, like me, you are open to all students (and not just your regular students that you have become friends with), your rating can vary widely. No matter how good of a tutor you are, you will not be everyone's cup of tea. Also, Cambly does not allow tutors to teach in some states in the U.S. due to labor laws.
