Not a healthy place to work. Lots of instability. Lots of layoffs. Lots of absent leadership. - Anonymous employee Biogen Employee Review

Pros

Health insurance and retirement benefits are very good. This is a hold over from past days.

Cons

Very negative culture. Leadership is absent on multiple levels and throughout the company. Management does not value differing points of view. Management only wants ‘yes’ men and women. This place use to inspire teams to leverage diversity of thought to better achieve a richer outcome, now it uses fear and negativity to try and achieve their goals. The environment at Biogen is unstable. People are constantly getting laid off. I’ve had 6+ managers in the last 12 months. My story unfortunately is not uncommon. I’ve seen Biogen hire people and relocate them, only to let them go a few months later. Wow. With the numerous layoffs and reorganizations throughout the company (several times within the same functions), the opportunity for career growth has been reduced to nearly zero. People are removed from their current positions and ‘placed’ in others with no regards as to whether they want that role or not. While others who are applying for those ‘open’ roles are left with no opportunity to grow or expand. This happens often. Many people at Biogen are leaving in droves because the culture is so negative. Beware, not a healthy or good place to work.

Pros

The benefits package is strong and competitive, which adds a lot of overall value. There are many internal departments and career paths, making it relatively easy to explore new roles and grow within the company. On-site cafeteria is a convenient and appreciated perk. Many colleagues are highly experienced and have been with the company and industry for years, making them great resources for learning and mentorship.

Cons

Promotion policies can be limiting—there seems to be an informal rule that prevents employees from being promoted more than once in a year, even for high performers. Salary could be more competitive compared to market rates. Equipment and internal systems feel outdated and could benefit from modernization to improve efficiency.
