Slave Labor - Manager Trainee Big 5 Sporting Goods Employee Review

Pros

Training is okay. Staff is pretty young for the most part. People shopping are usually open to suggestions, because they are shopping at Big 5.

Cons

Company only hires management from within. Working as a manager trainee is very near slave labor. Unloading a truck with little - or lazy - help is ridiculous. Expecting one person to shelve all those shoes and assist customers on their shift is silly.

Pros

I enjoyed my time working here.

Cons

Loss prevention is a stressful part of the job.

Pros

Most employees were really fun to work with, life/work balance was great, taught me good life skills, good first job for work experience.

Cons

Barely got scheduled (pretty sure my location was way over employed), occasional rude and entitled costumers (especially during the holidays), could get very slow and boring at times, sketchy area, overal, not a great job if you're looking for something that pays well.
