Pros

Laid back atmosphere, flexible. Has tremendous community values on some things. Excellent development team.

Cons

Upper management uses emotions and will often make decisions on things they do not understand. Moving ahead in the company more often is who you know, not how hard you work. Bonus system is next to nonexistent, unless you are an executive, and never transparent.

The bonus system was changed for 2013 to address concerns like those expressed in this review about transparency. Basically, the 2013 bonus plan is to take a designated percentage of company profit as a company-wide bonus pool, determine how many weeks pay that amount represents, then award all eligible employees a bonus equal to that number of weeks. So for instance, if the bonus pool at the end of the year equals 2 weeks payroll for the company, then all eligible employees will get a bonus equal to 2 weeks pay. That will be true for executives as well as others. That should demonstrate 2 things: company leaders are listening to our associates' concerns and are willing to try new approaches to address those concerns where we can. Of course, no company is perfect, and we don't claim to be, but I think we get a bit of a bad rap at times from people who probably always find something about which to complain.

Pros

Fast paced environment with LOTS of hands-on experience with many different tools. The people are the reason to stay, lots of smart and caring people, managers, and leaders towards the bottom of the food chain.

Cons

Upper Management has completely destroyed this company and gutted it. In my several years at the company, communication is as poor as it could be. Bonuses are promised and then not followed up on. RIFs happen far too frequently. It is abundantly clear that this company does NOT care about it's employees, and at the moment is almost seems like they are trying as hard as they can to get people to quit so they don't have to pay severances before acquiring more companies and moving headquarters to Texas. The culture in the days of Overstock was incredible, it made people excited about being able to work there. Now people are hanging on by threads, large teams are now carried on the backs of just 1-2 people without additional pay as we see co-workers get laid off left and right. It is not sustainable. Important things are being missed because there are not enough people to do the work, which will end up biting the company in the butt for compliance and finance reasons.
