Pros

- I was at BDO for many years. Generally, the people there were great to work with. The partners do generally care about you and are interested in you. The manager group worked well together. - Obviously you need to be more senior for the work to be interesting (staff level work isn't interesting anywhere - you just have to bide your time guys) but what you put in - you get far more out. The opposite is also true...

Cons

- There's nice and there's too nice. Over the years there were people they should have got rid of sooner that they let stay. These underperformers (seniors and managers) just mean the good people have to work that much harder. - The OC office didn't grow very much from 2007 to 2014. Yes there was a recession - but look at LA and SF - they are powering ahead. This limits opportunities for progression. See my comment in advice below. - Year round busy season when you have off year end clients. Well - not 100% a con as you get a fantastic experience - you just need down time sometimes... - I had to complain about pay every year. Every second year I would get a nice bump - but then the other year would be poor as I'd got a big bump previously. Just pay market rates already. I got a 25% bump when I left. That shows I was underpaid...

Pros

Consultants were not overworked, and people are generally staying in their own lane. Strong knowlegeable teammates and lots of internal resources to grow. Work life balance was good.

Cons

I left during a time of transition, since the top practice director retired and the EBA leader took over as interim leader. This interim guy seemed to be waiting for something to take any action with current resources, and he was not too interested in rallying or figuring things out as a team. If he had expectations, they were never communicated to me. The lack of clarity was very challenging for me personally, and it came off as a lack of support. I think others in the team probably feel similarly.
