Pros

Excellent benefits. Flex time. Ability to work from home. On the client service side, opportunities to advance. Everyone I have met has been very nice and helpful.

Cons

SS&G joined forces with BDO 1/1/2015. On the CORE (HR, IT, Marketing, Internal Accounting) side, most employees are 'silo-ed' in that they do one thing and ONLY one thing. When it was SS&G, the Home Office group worked as a team and nearly everyone could help almost anyone. BDO is huge so you are no longer a name, you are a number. CPE courses for professional staff are mandated and the object of the game is to pass, not learn. When taking the exams, employees are only told the score and never know which answers were correct and which were incorrect. Perhaps if I had wanted to work for a large company, this would be a good experience. I always wanted small - manageable - a place where I know that what I do matters and makes an impact.

Pros

Compensation is OK. There are some really nice people in the organization to work with, but you have to find them.

Cons

If you are not part of the SWC "club" (company name prior to them joining BDO), good luck. Poor leadership!!! Practice lead talks to everyone like they are talking to a CEO, not relatable in most cases. No clear employee development plans. You are held accountable for things completely outside of your individual control. They stress incorporating AI into work strategy, but have no plan on what that looks like or how to do it and want everyone to formulate it because leadership has no roadmap. One has no control over where you want to take your career, yet you are expected to know everything, about everything. As a result, you become an expert of nothing! Work assigned rarely leverages skills, almost as if they throw darts to see who works on what.
