Pros
In terms of the business itself, I was very impressed by how well Argos has adapted to the new retail environment. They've really kept up with the move to online shopping, and I think it'll make them a good bet in the future. The team I worked in were generally welcoming, and I was given a lot of helpful support in my first few days, while I learned the ropes. Managers were great at providing positive verbal feedback, and being kept informed about how the store was doing in terms of targets made it feel like we were part of a group effort. Generally, it was a good working atmosphere.
Cons
The pay is minimum wage, as you'd expect, and like any retail job there were times when the place was dead and time when it was incredibly busy and pretty hectic. The hours-per-week varied considerably even over my eight or so weeks there (from 32 hours one week to 14 another), possibly because they over-hired for the Christmas period. One member of staff was pretty unhelpful and inpatient with people who didn't get things right first time, which was off-putting, but that person was the exception to a generally lovely team.
