Pros

A few nice people there.

Cons

The company is run by a group of non-technologists from a company called Acxiom, which provides legal services. The executive team was one of the most dysfunctional teams I've ever seen, and there is no diversity in the C-staff, despite the fact that Andela is a global company with the majority of employees in Africa. Andela's top execs are mostly Acxiom people who hired Acxiom people. If you're not in their clique, you'll have to fight your way in. The company is so disorganized and unprofessional, and most people in most roles are there out of sheer luck - restructures, reorgs, downsizing. The low level of talent and professionalism results in very young and inexperienced people in positions of authority. This leads to the creation of programs and systems that don't make any sense, and that are so obviously screwed up that most Andelans know to take everything Andela does and says with a grain of salt. The overall work culture is nasty. There are a lot of politics, a lot of backstabbing, and a lot of people trying to take credit for the few successes that Andela ever has. There is a lot of talk of "who tweeted who" - basically, the C-staff is obsessed with influence instead of their own employees. The morale among employees is very low, and the loss of morale is from the top down. Everyone seems defeated. The only reason anyone is working there still is because they haven't found their new job yet. Everyone I knew there was looking for a new job. If you're a recruiter, please throw a bone to Andelans to help them get out of there.
