Pros

Let me start off by saying that my review score is really 3.5 but I can't select that so I'll go with 4. AWS is an interesting company to say the least. They are growing like a weed and don't seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Cloud computing is the future of technology right now so it would seem AWS had a pretty clear lead on the competition. I can't speak for every role but the LDR position has its ups and downs. The good parts are that the pay is very competitive with a solid base salary and very nice incentives if you hit your quarterly goals. I also received a very generous signing bonus and will receive a less generous, but still great, year two bonus. AWS has a start up vibe to it so things move quickly, which is exciting. You have the ability to implement new best practices and lead change within your sector. This helps get you noterioty which is always a good thing. They are also very big, at least within the sales team, on praising employees for bringing in big deals or whenever a compliment is paid to a specific employee related to their work ethic. Work advancement is relatively clear in terms of where you have the ability to go and how long it normally takes you to get there. They are also very flexible with working remote and moving to different parts of the country or even internationally. Overall I would say that the pros outweigh the cons by a lot.

Cons

As stated above, AWS has a startup vibe which is good but at the same time presents problems. Things move very quickly which can create a hectic work environment at times. Best practices are constantly changing and aren't necessarily set in stone which makes getting setttled in your role difficult if not almost impossible. Within the LDR role, you honestly have little to no control on the kind of money you can bring in. Your main objective is to follow up on leads and schedule time for the client to speak to a sales reps. You are goaled on how much that individual client's workload will cost within the Cloud but you have no influence on how much that will be. This makes it difficult to hit quota because of lack of control and high amounts of "touches" and "meetings" to set up. AWS follows suit with Amazon's culture where you have to be very self reliant. Being new and asking a million questions is extremely frowned upon to say the least. People will refer you to a Wiki within Amazon that 85% of the time won't answer your question and honestly would've been quicker and easier for the person you asked to have just told you the answer. This at time and can be stressful and frustrating being a new person. Luckily I started with two other individuals which helped calm me down and let us work together to solve problems. If you are to start alone though I could potentially see that person quitting. As stated above, you have those individuals who will immediately capatilize on your mistake and be absolutely sure to forward it on to your manager or even their own manager. This can be very frustrating because it creates a severe lack of trust among coworkers and gives AWS a very cutthroat vibe at times. The best way to handle this is realize who the snakes in the grass are and avoid them or kill them with kindness as best as you can.

Pros

Really smart people, a lot of opportunity for growth, always encouraged to be innovative, think big, and create something new. Competitive salary and benefits with other major tech companies. 100% self motivating work environment. No dress code and 4 legged friends are welcome.

Cons

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
