Pros

Some decent people in the London office that are enduring the same pain, looking for the exit door usually after 2-3 months being in the company. Offices are in a good location in central london

Cons

Salary: Manager or consultant, the salaries are way below industry standards for such insecure roles. The bonus looks good on paper, but no one EVER reaches even half the bonus amount, even the best of the best, read the small print and question the high targets! Also when you sign for such high targets, it gives them a premise for a future dismissal, even if your performance is above average. They will expect you to work 12-14 hours a day, which means you could be better of working at Tesco stocking shelves, as the hourly pay is comparable. Macho-predator culture: The culture in Alten LTD is based on a weird French attitude of chauvinism, self-promotion and nepotism. Bullying is swept under the carpet as jokes, and dismissing attitudes from business unit managers are encouraged. You will be told that promotions are given on the merit of exhibiting the right behaviors, which could irl range from jogging with the managing director in the morning, faking KPIs by organizing fake meetings with customers or simply claiming new account openings that never happen, as the PO never arrives. If you are diligent, hard-working and not willing to heavily self promote in the cost of others or are simply nice to others in the spirit of teamwork, don't expect to survive in such an environment. Management: Micro-management from the mid-90s. Some people even put their toilet breaks into their calendars. Every move within every account of yours, every meeting you have, every interview you do is questioned by your manager on weekly monitoring meeting. They will never trust you to do the job due to the individualistic predator KPI driven culture. The Job: Your role will NOT be anything as advertised. You do NOT have ownership of anything or any independence or entrepreneurship. You will be expected to repeat an interview script to candidates you have sourced (working as a recruiter) a minimum of 10 times a week like a robot. You will repeat the same pitch via cold calling 50-100 times a week to customers that do NOT want to do business with you due to Alten's dodgy reputation. You will be "managing" a consultant team which only consists of doing "career management" meetings every 3 months and not talking to them unless they work with one of your own clients or are in between projects. You are not a business developer or working a consultancy or "managing" your own engineering team. This is an agency disguised as a consultancy where you will be doing the work of a glorified recruitment consultant. Job Security: Do not be conned by the false premise of consultant job security on your first interview, it is a lie, you will be sacked if we cannot find you a project in the first 3 months, if you do not become best buddies with your manager or if business goes slightly down. They expect people to resign from their jobs and move countries, because they may have the opportunity at that moment. Key word is opportunity, as they might get back to you a few weeks before or a couple of months into the job, finding an excuse to make you redundant.

Glassdoor is an open platform enabling employees to write comments and rate their current and/or previous companies in order to give them the opportunity to improve and fine-tune their model. It is thus necessary to keep a strong level of measure and seriousness in the feedback provided. The lack of substance, honesty and accuracy of the here above comment, cannot unfortunately be considered as a constructive feedback and the foundation of improvements but simply as the spread of unjustified and dangerous hatred. However, it is necessary to address some of the points through a factual way: 1- Salaries/targets: Talking to hundreds of engineers and customers every month enables us to have an accurate vision and understanding of the market. Alten is continuously ensuring a relevant alignment between our salary policy and the UK market. This alignment is performed through the continuous collaboration of our Recruitment and HR teams. Although they are ambitious and challenging, some people actually do reach their targets, and they get the right level of reward for this. 2- Company culture: We pride ourselves in being a very multicultural and inclusive organisation, having more than 30 different nationalities present in the company. I am sure you will understand that in such circumstances, the culture cannot be based on a “French attitude”, and this comment is clearly on the brink of racism. While it seems you understood the only way to get a promotion was through cheating your results or influencing people in the organisation, I would like to clarify that people who are promoted are truly deserving people, who prove they could deliver to the level of excellence that is expected at Alten. 3- Management: unfortunately, here again, some allegations cannot be taken seriously (toilet breaks in calendars?). Bringing the appropriate level of support to our employees is a top priority for us. On particularly challenging roles (such as Business Manager), weekly follow-up meetings are there to ensure we provide the right level of guidance on all the complex situations that can be encountered in the job. From a consultant’s perspective, it is important to remind that on top of the quarterly career follow-up meetings, they benefit from daily follow-up from a project perspective through our technical direction and the account managers. 4- Job/ownership: from the very first steps of the recruitment process, it is made very clear what are the responsibilities of a Business Manager who will join the organisation: being in charge of developing activities with existing and new clients, recruiting your team of engineers and developing their career in the organisation. At Alten, Business Managers are entrepreneurs. They are in charge of “a company in the company”, their Business Unit. As entrepreneurs, they are encouraged to create positive and virtuous cycles and first and foremost, to face their responsibilities. While this may not be suitable for everybody, this is explained in a transparent way from the beginning. 5- Job security: offering a large majority of permanent contracts to our employees enables us to ensure a maximum level of job-security. This year has been exceptionally challenging for a number of businesses and I am sure you will appreciate that having to let people go in turbulent times in not something that anyone enjoys doing, let alone “finding an excuse” to have to do so. In a nutshell, I can see that most of these topics are the result of a lack of communication and misinformation about the company. I actually identify this as an improvement opportunity. Your review tells me that: although Alten is striving to make sure all necessary messages, processes and policies are communicated on the most accurate way, it seems important to keep getting better at it. In the future, I would advise you to address any frustration with your management at its ignition so that it doesn’t become disproportionate. As a manager, you probably know that the containment and corrective actions are easier to implement right after a problem occurs.

Pros

Working at this company has been a truly positive experience for me. It’s a place where I’ve been able to learn and develop my skills, and I really appreciate that they invest in my growth by paying for my certifications. I’m also involved in special projects with high added value, which has had a strong impact on my career development. What makes the biggest difference for me is the way they support me as a mom. Having the option to work remotely when needed is extremely important, and it’s something we rarely find elsewhere. I’ve never felt judged for being a mother—quite the opposite. They understand my responsibilities at home while ensuring that the client is always satisfied. This balance means a lot to me, and it makes me feel valued both as an employee and as a person. Overall, I’m truly grateful to be part of a company that invests in my future, trusts me with meaningful work, and respects my personal needs.

Cons

Due to the global economic situation, salary increases and bonuses have been impacted.
