Pros

Quite a bit of freedom in scheduling your work. Or at least until this year. Decent pay and health insurance.

Cons

24-7 on call, lots of out of pocket expenses, lots of driving time that you do not really get paid for, all extra work customer demands you will do without additional pay. Terrible hours, I work in the mornings to late afternoon then have to go back and work at night finishing my work around 2 or 3 am , then have to start all over again next morning. Forget vacation. Yes they give you vacation, but in order to take it you have to finish all your accounts and call backs that take the entire month in 2 or 3 weeks. You will be so tired when you take vacation that you'll do nothing but sleep. This job well leave you burned out with no time for life.

Rewarding work, great co-workers, poor leadership

Pros

The co-workers and interaction with key customers make this job worth it. The teamwork and frequent interfacing with customers to complete very important projects is fulfilling.

Cons

There is little to no strategic vision within the divisions. The communication and cooperation between the silo-ed divisions is poor. Poor pay for the incredible amount of hours and demands placed upon employees at every level. Ecolab is significantly behind in technology and there seems to be no desire to catch up. Feedback and recognition are non-existent unless you are fortunate enough to be a part of an old school clique.

Don't Expect to Get Promoted

Pros

Ecolab's wages are higher than most company's in the area. They have a great benefits package which includes a pension plan.

Cons

It is hard to come up through the ranks. When they find a position that is hard to fill, you are almost guaranteed to never be promoted. Your hard work and success will not get you a promotion. If you are willing to take the political route you will have more success.
