NO RAISE IN 10 YEARS

Pros

You can often pick the hours you work. The people you work with are great.

Cons

There has not been a raise in 10 years. The pay was good 10 years ago, but is poor now. The wage is equal to the minimun wage in Calif.

Pros

A remote job that is remote is the only pro.

Cons

Where to begin? The Toiec Program is the absolute WORST there is. I've scored for others, and this is the WORST. I can't stress that enough. -Poor Leadership. They micromanage you and then sit like vultures waiting for you to make what they call an "error". You can be doing well all day long, getting everything right, but they will invent a "wrong" just to provide their precious "feedback".  Then they swoop in and BEAT you with the verbal whip and tell you how you are so "wrong".  You will also have people from different levels (CSL & SL) giving "feedback" literally at the same time, and you will be forced to respond to both people. HUH? Who. Does. That? They will interrupt your scoring for their "feedback". They make you stop everything and respond. And then you MUST respond the way they TELL you to respond. Meaning they force you to say what they want to hear, which is that they are Right and you are a bad little boy/girl. Naughty. Specifically, they will say "What are your "thoughts"?  If you don't respond according to the script, you will be punished.    In what world would a college graduate who slaved for their education and credentials want to endure this daily disrespect? They are brutal, ruthless, & cruel.  I've worked many jobs and always received excellent feedback at every job that I've worked, yet at this one, they always force there to be something negative to say EVERY time I work for it. And I had been at this job for years, yet every time they would treat me like it was my very first day! INSANE They will send someone who has been doing this for a DECADE back to training daily. Huh? I still don't know my job after that long. Really? It's unreal, and they are without a clue. And I've actually gotten sick due to the incredibly stressful work conditions. But you definitely can't afford to be sick because there is absolutely no PTO or benefits. I also haven't been able to afford a vacation in almost 10 years due to the pathetic pay. Imagine what that will do to a person! Please RUN if you are ever offered this job!!! I can't stress that enough. I deeply regret the DAY I accepted this offer. It's been like burning in the pits of HELL in hot, burning Lava ALL DAY Long. Pure. torture. -You also have to take many, many tests all day long, back-to-back. And then tell your "leader" whether you "pass" or "fail" like a 5-year-old.  They also don't care if you'll need to test again in the next 5 minutes. They'll make you test for nothing. -And the job is just plain HARD. It's like being required to carry huge boulders up a steep mountain all day without a real break. (A 30-minute break is a joke for strenuous, nonstop mental labor.) You have to work literally every minute, or else they will swoop in and ask what's the problem. You are not allowed time to THINK. Which is what the job requires given the difficulty. This job was designed to burn out even the strongest among us. Please reconsider! After you are done with all this TORTURE you get to collect your pathetic wage, which NEVER increases yearly, not even by a penny. I had to work multiple jobs just to barely keep up with the bills. They will have you giving this job 305% while living under a bridge cause you can't afford the basics. Because they will not PAY A FAIR WAGE. I was grossly taken advantage of by this company. It has caused me MUCH grief, pain, and sorrow because of the endless abuse and cruel standards. Please RUN!!

Disgraceful Company

Pros

One and only one: work from home.

Cons

The cons that have been stated over and over again in the hundreds of other reviews are true. ETS cancels shifts with total abandon when the shifts are more than 24 hours out, and they have a shady system of 'modifying' a shift when there is less than 24 hours before the start of the shift. If ETS cancels a shift and that shift is less than 24 hours out, then they have to pay their raters for 1/2 of it. So if you were scheduled for an 8 hour shift, they will pay you for 4 hours. If they cancel a shift and that shift is more than 24 hours out, then they don't pay you anything. In the 7+ years I've been a rater, they have only canceled 1 shift with less than 24 hours notice. The number of times they've canceled shifts that are more than 24 hours out are far too many to count. As frequently as they cancel shifts more than 24 hours out, they also 'modify' shifts less than 24 hours out. For example, if you are scheduled for an 8 hour shift and they 'modify' it to be only 4 hours and the start of this shift is only 3 hours away, they only pay you for the 4 hours you worked, even though they really just canceled 4 hours of your shift and should pay you for 1/2 of that, so 2 hours. The pay for the program I score (TOEIC Speaking) has been the same since its inception over 10 years ago: $15/hr, which is currently minimum wage at Amazon. Walmart is now $11/hr, Costco $14/hr, and Target $12/hr. ETS requires at least a bachelor's degree to be a rater, yet they pay us the same wage as an uneducated employee who just started at Amazon and just $1 more than a teenager who just started at Costco. And this is a company that is supposed to embody the value of education? What a disgraceful joke. ETS has us raters exactly were they want us: completely and helplessly isolated and without a means to form camaraderie. I have been a rater for 7+ years and I don't know one other rater. Unfortunately Glassdoor won't allow me to leave an email address in my review for others to contact me; I had hoped this might be a way to connect with fellow raters and band together to explore forming a union or protest.
