Solid benefits -but boring work and awful location
Pros
My review mirrors many other reviews, because I think the key points have been spot on. Pros: - OK pay (be sure to negotiate). It may be better than adjuncting for some, but keep in mind that this is a full-time job without academic breaks - Good PTO/vacation for the industry - 3 weeks + 7 PTO days + 10 holidays - 3% matching for 403b + 6% in TIAA-CREF - Summer Fridays in July and August (out at 2 PM) - Generally nice, smart people
Cons
- As several other posters wrote, working in AD is basically like working on an assembly line. It's extremely process oriented. If you love working with Excel spreadsheets all day, you've come to the right place. - Processes and systems change constantly. It's really annoying. You get comfortable with one software program or workflow procedure, only to be shoved onto something else. - Again, as several other posters noted, the location is horrible. It's very far from public transportation, which is really a killer for people commuting in from urban areas. A lot of other companies are by the train station AND have shuttles - although those companies so close that employees could walk. ETS would have done better building their new building next to the train station & Route 1. - Since the location is in the middle of nowhere, telecommuting is aggressively promoted by SWS, the HR department. However, your department may not allow you to do this for a very long time, and you could still get denied about waiting for years. Plus, the technology is not very good. - Tuition remission requires you to work for ETS for two years after the completion of each class. - Some people are very negative, perhaps because due to the nature of the item review process. I'm not into negativity.
