Pros

People: This company is full of very smart, very motivated people. You won't have any trouble fitting in if you're eager to get going. Slugs might want to look elsewhere. Culture: Fantastic, helpful, supportive, and non toxic. Leaders lead from the front, including the CEO, who was raised up in Dow like almost all of the senior staff. Basically, if someone is in that position it's because they know what they are doing. Also worth noting that work life balance is great at Dow, including for on site plant personnel. Training: there is a class for everything and you'll be assigned a mentor who's job it is to ensure you actually develop (you're not alone and it's not sink or swim). Pay and benefits: good pay, good benefits, and very flexible leave schedules. Technology: Dow is a materials science powerhouse that contracts out very little of the actual work. They have more than enough cool stuff to sink your teeth into, be it automation, chemical/process engineering, materials science, etc.

Cons

Salary is less than comparable privately owned chem majors. BUT BEWARE: those companies have much more toxic/strenuous work environments and longer hours.

Pretty solid if you can advocate for yourself

Pros

-Leadership will listen to your career desires if you document it in HR system -Moving up ladder is doable if you’re good at talking…politics matter -Culture is good in most businesses. Collaborative. If you ask for help you will get it. Must be able to be confident to obtain this help -Work-life balance is outstanding in commercial realm. No one cares if your sick, no one cares if you take a day off to handle appointments. Most don’t even log their vacation. No one cares.

Cons

-Safety is a facade depending on the business. If a chemical is known to be dangerous but it’s an integral part of the industry, low customer safety is ignored -Poor onboarding process across the board -Poor job descriptions. Must be able to say no. Leadership support is key to saying no without negative ramifications -Salary increase is decided by leadership twice in a year, only a set amount of budget is provided and your boss has to advocate for you. Cowardly boss means no promotion, but you can gain favoritism one above your leader to get support. Must be smooth with this process. Natural pay bump is targeted every 3 yrs -D&I: they only care about women in leadership. I see minimal POC ratios except for asian.

Pros

Some departments allow you to work remotely.

Cons

The company requires ethical training every year, they have an ethics hotline for issues but if you really have a problem, dont count on hr or management to help. The company norm is look away and nothing happened.
