      Unsure of future growth opportunities

      Pros

      One can gain a lot of experience, learn a lot, and make good connections if you are proactive. There are many great people to work with here, and they offer 9/80 and 4/10 schedules, as well as other flexible schedules if worked out with HR and your supervisor.

      Cons

      Because the last big hiring period of technical people was 20+ years ago, there is a lack of training programs and on-boarding procedures that leave many young hires frustrated if they do not know how to network and ask the right people for help whenever needed. The company also seems to be set on a course where R&D is not appreciated as much as it was before - leaving many unsure if there really are opportunities for growth. Location is a big con if you are not a small town living kind of person

      Pros

      Benefits are great, AFO is great. There are many opportunities to pursue growth development, depending on where you work in Dow the hands on training is good.

      Cons

      Again, depending on who you work for reflects how much "flexibility" you are offered. I reported to a micro manager. This was difficult for me as I had come from an independent work situation in a corporate environment, and then went to a blue collar manufacturing environment. Additionally, some of the op's carried unusually large work loads. Keep in mind that once you take a permanent job with Dow Chemical, you are stuck at that job for three years before you can bid out. That is a long time if you are not satisfied in your position. The work life balance did not apply to my position, (all depends on who you report to) and I also feel like the salaries are on the low side

      Pros

      Flexible schedule. Felt like I was valued more than a "co-op" in my role. Great insight exposure to a global company. Excellent opportunity to gain knowledge in many software programs (SAP, etc).

      Cons

      I got the impression Dow hires full-time workers that attended universities they actively recruit at. If you did not attend one of those "larger" universities, your chances for full-time employment is limited regardless of your co-op performance reviews.
