Pros

Colleagues (not leaders) are the best part of Dow. Majority of employees are very nice to work with. Can’t think of any other pros

Cons

The company is headed into wrong direction. The board needs to intervene and purge out incompetent C level executives who have been responsible for driving the stock price from ~60$ to ~20$ in less than a year. The extreme focus on DEI is counter productive - it is costing the company a lot. Promotion freeze and hiring freeze is in place for about a year yet you’ll see higher level directors and fellows get promotions. The policy is not applied to all levels equally. Spending freeze is getting to a ridiculous levels. Workstations haven’t been upgraded for 4+ years. The awards and recognitions have been stopped for over a year. The morale of the workforce is very low. Despite laying off a significant portion of employees, the leaders have unrealistic expectations about the amount of work that needs to be done. The employees have been reduced but the work is still the same if not more. The Dow chemical company from 2022 and from today are not the same. It will probably take years to recover from this position. The company wide surveys for leaders and organization have been discontinued. The flexible work has also been discontinued - the company didn’t fail cause employees had flexibility - the company failed because the leadership has been a disaster. This company needs a fresh start and purging of current C level execs. If you have an offer from Dow, please reconsider it. There’s no growth or promotions for at least 3-4 years.

Pros

Dow has a relatively good culture of people which is one of the best parts of working there. It is almost guaranteed that you will work on very challenging and meaningful projects/endeavors during your time. They have a 9/80 schedule for most employees except for shift operations which is nice. They also have good 401K matching and an employee stock purchasing program if you choose to participate. Dow is also relatively good at letting you choose your career path compared to some other big oil/gas/chemical companies out there. You are usually not stuck in the pipeline of the job you're currently in if you don't want to be and work hard.

Cons

Dow pays a good bit less than some of the competitors, yet works you harder. I have friends at all competitive companies and they all make more than me with the same or less years of experience. They also have less responsibilities in similar comparison roles to mine. I find that I am working many more hours and have a lot more responsibility than my peers at other companies yet I am not compensated for it. This is a challenge as I find i don't get to utilize my 9/80 schedule like I would like to as I'm often working. Production engineering is very busy and truly is a firefighting job. If you like that, then you may like a production engineer role. Fight for a higher salary if you can, because dow will work every hour out of you. There is no overtime for salary, except in certain situations where they give you a very small percent of your salary for no matter how many hours you work over 65 in a week. Its disheartening as Dow gets my time and efforts for free a lot of the time.

Pros

well established and industry-leading processes in place for people development and standardization of salary etc

Cons

too much emphasis on soft-skills in some units. agree that soft-skill is important but that depends on the job. as a result lot of managers dont have clue on technical and get bought into snake oil, and promotes the same and the people who bring them vs people who know the technical stuff or details.
